Your coverages
Is it usually covered?
The first consultations are usually considered outpatient costs. Whether they are claimable depends on your policy coverages, or on whether they lead to some forms of treatment.
Procedures such as an angiogram or a stent, done as day surgery or in hospital, are often claimable under an Integrated Shield plan when they are medically necessary. Always subject to your insurer’s approval.
Heart scans and stress tests are often outpatient costs. Tests done shortly before a hospital stay may be claimable as pre-hospitalisation costs, depending on your plan.

Questions
Cardiology: common questions
Do I need a GP referral to see a cardiologist?
Not always, but some insurers and many company benefits ask for one before they will pay. We will tell you whether yours does before you book.
My health screening flagged something about my heart. What now?
If the screening doctor has given you a referral letter to a cardiologist, send it to us with your plan details. We check what your plan covers for the visit and any tests, give you an indicative cost, and book you in.
